USAG JO Program
Compulsory Levels
Level 4
Level 4 is a compulsory class, governed entirely by USAG JO Program rules.
Age Groups
- 6-7
- 8-9
- 10-11
- 12+
Level 4 gymnasts compete in the above age groups up to the State level.
Start Value
The start value of a routine is the sum of all it's parts. In the case of compulsory routines, the start value is the base score added to the bonus.
9.2 Base Score + 0.8 Bonus = 10.0 (Maximum Score)
Base Score:
In compulsory gymnastics the gymnast performs a routine set by the USA Gymnastics Junior Olympic Program. Each compulsory routine is broken up into parts. Parts may consist of a single skill or a sequence of skills. Regardless of the amount of skills in the part each part is worth the same, 1.0 of the Base Score of the routine. If the part is missing or unrecognizable the gymnast receives a 1.0 deduction from his Base Score. If he completes more than 50% of the part he receives 0.5 a deduction from his Base Score.
If the skills in each sequence are performed with improper technique, or if the gymnast falls on or off the apparatus, has a lapse in form, or any other errors, deductions are taken.
One skill may have multiple single deductions. Single deductions range in value as follows: 0.1 (small), 0.2 (medium), 0.3 (large), 0.5 (fall or added part), 1.0 (missing part).
Bonus (Difficulty and Special):
There are four separate ways to receive bonus:
- Specified Bonus = 0.4 (0.2 per skill/sequence)
There are two specified bonus skills/sequences in each routine (except vault) that the gymnast is eligible to receive, provided they do not receive a single large error deduction. - Virtuosity Bonus = up to 0.2 (maximum 0.1 per skill) as a result of:
· Flawless execution
· Any flawless skill performed with extreme amplitude - Stick Bonus = 0.1
Only dismounts that are stuck may receive this bonus. - General Performance Award (GPA) = 0.1 (except Vault)
Earned when the cumulative deductions in execution are ≤ 0.5. The maximum with any execution errors is 9.95
