Vault

Start Value

9.7 Base Score + 0.3 Bonus = 10.0 (Maximum Score)

Guidelines
  • The junior program will not give a zero score for any vault as log as the vaulter completes the run to or beyond the board. Otherwise, the minimum score for any actual vault will be 1.00. A zero vault, as defined by the FIG, may be repeated once, with a deduction of 1.00 from the value of the second attempt. No third attempts will be allowed.
  • The coach must stand between the board and the landing area to spot. The judge should not allow the gymnast to begin his run if the coach is not in position.
  • Base matting area is 6 feet x 12 feet and the minimum height of 30 cm as per FIG additional matting is allowed.
  • Board set at a maximum 12 inches from the mat.
Vault Sequence
  1. Run from minimum 20 to maximum 40 feet

    Performance Guidelines: Run must show acceleration

  2. Coordinated kinetic running movement

    Performance Guidelines: A fixed bent arm swing with elbow rise in front and rear, with arms moving in a parallel plane.

  3. Hurdle and Underarm swing when approaching the spring board

    Performance Guidelines: Feet must be in front of hips on contact with springboard. Semi-circle action must show hands circling under the height of the shoulders.

  4. Straight jump up to mats
  5. Straight arms must reach vertical at or before the peak of the jump

    Performance Guidelines: The gymnast's hips must show a distinct rise.

  6. Landing

    Performance Guidelines: All landing deductions as per FIG, but no distance or axis deductions will be taken.
